Everything you need to know.

The energy efficient solution for all heating systems

This directive and the label associated with it, both of which are applicable throughout the European Union (EU), are intended to assist you as a consumer with your purchasing decisions and help reduce private energy demand, as well as promote climate protection.

The ErP Ecodesign Directive
at a glance

Fridges, dishwashers, washing machines, ovens – it all started with white goods in the 1990s. Today, other energy consuming appliances also carry the European ErP energy efficiency label, such as TV sets, lighting and – since September 2014 – even vacuum cleaners. "ErP" stands for energy related products.

Now, minimum energy efficiency requirements for energy efficient solutions (the Ecodesign Directive) are also specified for manufacturers of space heaters, combi boilers, water heaters and DHW cylinders.

This directive and the label associated with it, both of which are applicable throughout the European Union (EU), are intended to assist you as a consumer with your purchasing decisions and help reduce private energy demand, as well as promote climate protection.

The ErP Ecodesign Directive explained by WOLF

Efficiency at a glance

The ErP label for space heaters shows the efficiency class on a scale from A++ to G (to D for heat pumps; from A to G for cylinders). The label for (low temperature) heat pumps shows information about the climate zone as well. This scale will become more stringent in coming years.

Values such as the sound power rating and heating output are also displayed. If the label is for a combi boiler for central heating and DHW heating, it shows the efficiency class of both functions.

WOLF supplies a label and datasheet for all products it delivers that are affected by these regulations. Dealers and contractors must use these to label the products.

The benefit with WOLF as a system supplier:
the system package label.

Just as with the individual product label, every quotation for a system package must specify its energy efficiency class. The label and completed datasheet must be clearly displayed. Even a boiler plus control unit qualifies as a "system package". It is the responsibility of your dealer or contractor to calculate and label your system package accordingly.

Repair? Replace? Convert?

The introduction of the Ecodesign Directive also means that nearly all WOLF conventional, non-condensing boilers up to 400 kW will be withdrawn from our product range.

Service and repair

Existing systems, however, can continue to be used beyond the deadline. Regular servicing of your appliances is therefore important.

Replacement

Especially in apartment blocks, it is advisable to inspect all conventional boilers and replace individual products that are showing signs of ageing. Please note that a conventional boiler and a condensing boiler cannot be connected to a single, shared flue.

Efficiency label for older heating systems

The efficiency label for older heating systems was introduced in Germany on 1 January 2016. This means that your contractor or flue gas inspector must assess your old heating system and then affix an efficiency label. Gradually, all systems will be assessed free of charge in the next few years. This label provides you with information about the efficiency of your heating appliance and indicates the consulting and funding options available to modernise your heating system.

ErP ready? The facts that matter

  • Heating systems up to 70 kW and cylinders up to 500 l must carry the new energy efficiency label. This means you are informed about the efficiency of your system.
